Bioluminescence is driven by the Foam simulation, as the foam simulation is a proxy for turbulence which triggers bioluminescence in real life.

Usage

The set up bioluminescence from the defaults, do the following:

  • Enable Water Material ‣ Surface Inputs ‣ Bioluminescence ‣ Foam Bioluminescence Enabled

If it is not showing, then check the following:

  • Enable Water Renderer ‣ Simulations ‣ Foam ‣ Enabled

  • Enable Water Material ‣ Surface Inputs ‣ Foam ‣ Foam Enabled

  • Make sure there is something actually generating foam in the scene (eg choppy waves, shorelines etc)

Customization

All the properties for customizing bioluminescence is under Water Material ‣ Surface Inputs ‣ Bioluminescence.

The sparkles can be customized further by editing the green channel of the foam texture.
